Finally back to the Algarve. It seems like I am here almost every year to ride this great Tour, which I have been able to win two times. In addition to the good organization, the almost family atmosphere, the great landscape and the enthusiastic fans, I especially look forward to the time trial, to which the organizers fortunately hold on to. This year it is a pretty difficult one, but I hope that I can be in the mix for the GC, although that is not my primary goal.
Things were pretty well at the recent Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana. I won a stage there. But in the last days I have been training with less intensity and just done basics. I don’t want to get in form too early, but want to let the form come gradually so that it will last for a while. I prepared intensively for Valencia and so have to bring things down a little. But my feelings are still very good.
I used this short training period to again work intensively on my position with our partners SNAPS and gebioMized. After the aero test on my time trial bike on the track, we optimized my movements on the road bike and had new insoles made for more stability. Of course after nine years as a pro there are only nuances to be changed, but the first trainings since then have felt really good. Now I can’t wait to see what effect they have in racing.
